Urad Dal Bonda Recipe with Pepper
Urad dal bonda is an easy and healthy south Indian dish which can be made for breakfast. They are similar to medu vada, just different in shape and size. They can be served with variety of sides, coconut chutney or even ketchup. Urad dal bondas are very convenient to carry that makes it a good tiffin dish. These bondas are crispy from outside and fluffy from inside.
Urad dal bonda is made of urad dal batter with added pepper. Its batter can be prepared in a mixer grinder or a wet grinder. They can be made with many variations, adding vegetables or some flavors to it will enhance and change the taste of the urad dal vadas. Urad dal vadas are also known as Mysore vadas and Ulundi bondas. Puviya’s recipe here is an easy and fast method of preparing urad dal bondas.

- 2 cup soaked (2 hours) urad dal
- 1tsp salt
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp pepper powder

Recipe Instructions of Urad Dal Bonda Recipe:
Preparation:
Take 2 cups of urad dal and soak it for about 2 hours in a bowl.
2. After 2 hours, wash the urad dal and drain of the water from the bowl.
3. Transfer the urad dal into a grinder jar. Grind the urad dal for about 2-3 minutes, make sure
you don’t add much water.
4. The batter made of urad dal should be thick.
5. Transfer the urad dal batter to a bowl.
6. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the batter in the bowl.
7. Next, add ¼ teaspoon of baking soda to the batter in the bowl.
8. Now, add 1 teaspoon of pepper powder to the batter in the bowl.
9. Mix the batter well. Make sure there are no lumps or non-grinded urad dal.
10. Scramble the batter for about 1 minute in the bowl. Don’t spill the batter.
11. A fluffy batter of urad dal is ready in the bowl.
12. Take some of the batter on your fingers and make a small ball sized shape out of it.
13. Take a kadhai and add some oil to it. Make sure the oil is hot and nice. Now, drop the ball in
the oil. Following the similar process make more bondas and start frying them.
14. Stir the bondas occasionally in the kadhai slowly, make sure they don’t break.
15. Fry the vadas in medium flame for about 1-2 minutes.
16. Let the colour of the bondas turn to golden in the kadhai.
17. Using a strainer take the bondas out of the kadhai, strain off the extra oil. You could always
place some tissue in the plate for soaking the extra oil.
