Directions
South Indian cuisine sounds incomplete without vadas in it. Sambar vada is almost similar to medu vada. Usually prepared in breakfast, sambhar vada is made of urad dal and idli dough. An ideal south Indian breakfast, it is also very famous in western India along with south India. Sambhar vadas are normally eaten with coconut chutney and sambar.
These are prepared with mainly urad dal dough and you could always add some more spices and vegetables to make it more nutritious. People on diet can also have these vadas due to its low- calorie component. Also, these vadas are very filling.
South Indians always make prefer to make these crispy vadas with all the other breakfast like upma, idli or dosa. These vadas are fluffy from the inside and crispy from the outside. Sambar vada is a protein rich breakfast due to the use of urad dal in it.

Ingredients- 1 cup urad dal dough
- ½ cup idli dough
- 1 onion
- Half handful coriander leaves
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tsp ginger chopped
- 1 green chilli
- As required oil

Recipe Instructions of Urad Dal Bonda Recipe:
Preparation:
- Take 1 cup of urad dal dough in a big bowl.
- Add ½ cup of idli dough in the bowl.
- Add 1 finely chopped onion to the batter in the bowl.
- Next, add 1 finely chopped green chili in the bowl.
- Add 1 teaspoon of finely chopped ginger to the batter in the bowl.
- Now, add half handful of coriander leaves in the batter.
- Add ¼ teaspoon of baking soda in the batter.
- Add ½ teaspoon of salt to the batter in the bowl.
- Mix all the ingredients in the bowl well, make sure there are no lumps in the batter.
- Take a small portion of the dough from the bowl and make a small ball of it.
- Slightly flatten the dough you have in your hand.
- Make a hole in the dough with your fingers.
- The dough should look like a medu vada in shape.
- Take a pan and pour some oil in it to fry the vada, make sure the oil is hot and nice. Following the same steps make some more vadas and put in the pan as well.
- Slowly stir the vadas occasionally in the pan.
- Deep fry the vadas at a medium flame, also flip the vadas to fry both the sides equally.
- Fry the vadas in the pan until they are golden and crispy.
- Using a strainer take out the vadas straining the extra oil.
- Place it in a plate, you could always use tissues to soak the extra oil on it.
- Pour sambhar over it or in a side bowl.
Crispy and mouth-watering sambar vadas are ready to eat.
