1 tsp SALT
1/2 cup WATER
1/4 tsp ENO
2 tbsp CARROT
1 tsp GREEN MIRCHI
1/4 tsp TURMERIC POWDER
1/2 cup PEANUT
2 tsp ROASTED CHANA DAL
2 tsp COCONUT
1 small sized ONION
2 GREEN CHILLI
1/2 tsp SALT
as required WATER
1/2 tbsp OIL
1/2 tsp MUSTARD
1 RED MIRCHI

This easy to make, soft and fluffy Kannada style south Indian breakfast along with the creamy coconut chutney can be your secret recipe for a perfect morning.

With cooking time of under 10 minutes, Puviya’s Kannada Rava Idili/Karnataka Semoline Idli recipe is perfect for the ones who prefer a light breakfast. It has ingredients that are readily available in any household kitchen and are easy to work with. One can choose to have this delicacy with the famous Indian Broth called Sambhar or can decide to have it with the chutney (the recipe to which is also given below). Being made out of Rava and no other white flours, it is good for your health and digestion.

Recipe Instructions of Kannada Rava Idili/Karnataka Semoline Idli:

Preparation:

  1. Take a clean pan. Heat it and add 1 tablespoon oil.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon mustard seeds to the oil.
  3. Add ½ tablespoon Urad Dal.
  4. Put ¼ tablespoon Cumin Seeds into the pan.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon Chana Dal to the mixture.
  6. For spice, add 1 tablespoon of finely chopped Green Chilly.
  7. Sauté and splutter the ingredients of the pan.
  8. Add ½ tablespoon Chopped Ginger.
  9. Put in some curry leaves.
  10. Chop and add 2 tablespoon carrot.
  11. Add ¼ tablespoon Turmeric Powder.
  12. Sauté the ingredients well.
  13. Now comes time for the ingredient that’s in the name. Add 1 cup Rava/Suji.
  14. Roast the Suji along with other ingredients already in the pan, on low flame.
  15. Continue roasting for about 4 minutes.
  16. Your Suji batter is now ready with a striking aroma.
  17. Take it off stove and Cool it down completely. Once cooled, empty it into a fresh bowl.
  18. Add ¾ cup curd to the bowl.
  19. Add a few Coriander leaves.
  20. Add 1 tablespoon Salt to the bowl.
  21. Mix it well.
  22. Again, stir well after adding ½ cup water.
  23. Add ¼ tablespoon of Eno for making your Idlis spongy and thick.
  24. Stir this mixture thoroughly and evenly till it becomes a smooth batter.
  25. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  26. Time to increase the pressure in your Idli Cooker. Take the Idli Plates and grease them with oil. We do this so that the Idlis don’t stick to the plate once ready.
  27. Pour the Rava Idli Batter into these plates. Fill them one by one.
  28. Once all the plates are prepared, place them in the Idli Cooker.
  29. Cook for about 10 minutes.
  30. Now it is time to prepare for the famous Chutney. Add ½ cup peanuts to a fresh pan.
  31. Roast them well till they are brown and cooked.
  32. Add 2 tablespoons chana Dal.
  33. Roast it on low flame setting.
  34. Cut the fire and let the contents of the pan cool completely. Once cooled, transfer the ingredients to a fresh bowl.
  35. Add 2 tablespoon chopped coconut and 1 small sized onion to the bowl.
  36. Add 2 Green Chillies along with ½ tablespoon salt. Add water according to taste.
  37. Blend these ingredients well. Your Chutney is almost ready. Set it aside for now.
  38. Take a fresh pan and warm ½ tablespoon oil. Add ½ tablespoon Mustard seeds when the oil is warm.
  39. Add 1 red chilly and a few curry leaves into the pan.
  40. Sauté and Splutter it well.
  41. Add this tadka to your blended chutney and a perfect side serving is ready.
  42. Check on your Idlis. If they feel soft and fluffy that means they are cooked.
  43. Serve the beautiful looking Kannada Rava Idili/Karnataka Semoline Idli dish to friends and family members as well.
