Easy soft Idli is one of the most known food items in India. With its origin being in the states of Southern India, this dish is made out of pulses and rice and is served with sambhar or coconut chutney. Most people across the country are familiar with it as a very healthy breakfast that is full of nutrients that you need for the day. However, there are only a handful who know how to make Idlis in their home kitchen from scratch.

People often tend to buy out the batter for Making easy soft Idli at home. However, buying the batter from outside has its risks. Since there can be serious health implications because of unhygienic food, it is always better to prepare it at home if possible or to buy it from a certified place.

Recipe Instructions of Easy Soft Idli Recipe :

Preparation of Soft Idli Recipe :

  1. In a pot, add 4 cups of idli rice.
  2. Add 1 cup of ration rice to the pot.
  3. Take 1 cup urad Dal and put it in another pot containing water.
  4. Add ¼ teaspoon of Methi seeds into the second pot containing The urad Dal.
  5. In a 3rd pot, put ¼ cup Sabudana. Make sure there is enough water in the pot to soak it.
  6. Take some water and add it to the first pot containing Idli rice and ration rice.
  7. Wash your rice 3-4 times.
  8. Ensure all these pots have their ingredients submerging.
  9. Let them soak for the next 5-6 hours.
  10. After 6 hours, uncover the lids. The rice and pulses would have soaked in the water by now.
  11. Grind the soaked urad dal along with the soaked methi seeds in a grinder.
  12. Prepare a soft and fluffy batter.
  13. After taking it out from the machine, knead the dough with hands to loosen it.
  14. Take the sabudana that we soaked earlier.
  15. Grind it well till you get another dough.
  16. To this dough made out of sabudana, add the soaked rice inside the grinder.
  17. Grind them together well.
  18. The mixture would be like a syrup.
  19. Add Urad Dal batter inside the grinder containing the sabudana-rice mixture.
  20. Now grind these ingredients together to form one batter.
  21. Add 1.5 teaspoons of salt to the batter.
  22. Mix the batter well together.
  23. Transfer the batter into a different container.
  24. Let the batter ferment for 8 hours.
  25. Upon uncovering the lid, you will find a fermented batter.
  26. Add ¼ teaspoon of Baking soda on a mixing spoon.
  27. Add minimal amount of water this mixing spoon.
  28. Mix the water and baking soda on the mixing spoon.
  29. Gently dissolve this mixture into the batter.
  30. On an Idly induction, pour the batter inside the moulds.
  31. Place the induction plates inside an Idli cooker.
  32. Let the batter cook for 12 minutes.
  33. After 12 minutes, open the cooker. Your batter would have turned to tasty, fluffy Idlis.
  34. This is an indication that the Idlis are fully cooked.
  35. Carefully take them out of the moulds and place them on any serving plate. Use a banana leaf for traditional south India feel.
  36. Serve with delicious Sambhar and enjoy your delicious soft idli.
