Make Andhra-style peanut chutney at home! This flavorful chutney combines roasted peanuts, garlic, red chilies, and tamarind for a rich, nutty taste. Perfect as a side with idli, dosa, upma, pongal, vada, or hot rice. Quick, easy, and authentically South Indian.


🛒 Ingredients

  • Raw Peanuts (Groundnuts) – 1 cup

  • Dry Red Chilies – 4–5 (or Green Chilies – 3, adjust spice)

  • Garlic – 2–3 cloves

  • Tamarind – small piece (or ½ tsp paste)

  • Salt – to taste

  • Oil – 1 tsp

For Tempering (optional, enhances taste):

  • Oil – 1 tsp

  • Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp

  • Urad Dal – ½ tsp

  • Curry Leaves – 6–8


🔪 Preparation Method

  1. Dry roast peanuts until golden and remove the skin.

  2. Heat 1 tsp oil, fry red chilies and garlic until aromatic.

  3. Blend roasted peanuts, fried chilies, garlic, tamarind, and salt into a smooth paste (add little water as needed).

  4. (Optional) Prepare tempering with mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves, then pour over the chutney.

  • Serve with idli, dosa, upma, pongal, vada, or hot rice.

  • Can also be used as a spread for sandwiches, rolls, or wraps.


📦 Storage & Usage

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2–3 days.

  • Stir before serving to maintain smooth texture.
