Notes

Recipe Notes for Andhra Tomato Pappu

  • Soaking the Dal: Soaking toor dal for 15 minutes helps in faster cooking and results in a creamy texture.
  • Adjusting Tanginess: The tamarind extract gives the dal its tangy taste. If you prefer a milder version, reduce the tamarind quantity.
  • Consistency: If the dal is too thick, add a little warm water while simmering to adjust the consistency.
  • Spice Level: Adjust red chilli powder and green chillies according to your spice preference.
  • Tadka (Tempering): Always add the tempering at the end to enhance the aroma and flavor of the dal.
  • Enhancing Flavor: Adding a teaspoon of ghee while serving enhances the taste and richness of the dish.
  • Storage: Tomato Pappu stays fresh in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. Reheat by adding a little water before serving.

Serve hot with steamed rice, ghee, and a side of pickle or papad for an authentic Andhra-style meal! 🍛😊
